Taxi Bill of Rights
The Taxi Bill of Rights is not a Bill.
It has no approval from the BC Legislative Assembly. And never seen the floor of the house.
A brief history on how this so called bill was created.
Kevin Falcon, BC's Transportation Minister was out on the town one night, indulging in undisclosed activities. Around bar closing he along with thousands of others tried to get a taxi cab. It so happened that the cab that did stop for Kevin Falcon was nearing the end of it's shift, and upon screening Kevin Falcon's request and destination, the cab driver decided that he could not take the trip. Kevin Falcon then tried to impose on the Taxi Driver, upon which he was at the receiving end of some colourful expletives, and then ejection from the taxi cab. Honorable Kevin Falcon then made a complaint to the Taxi Company involved, and the driver in question was given 2 months off. Two months without work my friends, that's what it costs to keep your work schedule in this country (when you step on the wrong toes that is).
We having been giving Kevin Falcon the benefit of the doubt, have written to his ministry and MLA Office repeatedly with no response. We even have an open letter to the minister (posted here on this website), with no response from him whatsoever.
Taking this process to the next step we need to find out the motivation towards creating a bill of rights that is
- Not really a bill and has no approval of the BC Legislature.
- Only applicable to Downtown Vancouver Taxis.
Mr. Kevin Falcon Taxi Drivers work hard to make a living, and regardless how much you oppress them with your misguided policies, the truth shall prevail and justice will be done in this great country of ours.
