TAXI BILL OF RIGHTS
Broadcast date 05-2-2008
We feel that the bigger problem is the Traffic congestion in Vancouver. Sutton Place hotel is also in a Traffic Gridlock, just kitty corner to the Hotel Vancouver (story 21-2-2008.
- The new bus lane (where taxis are not permitted) makes south bound travel on Burrard a nightmare. Northbound being no cake walk either.
- Vancouver may lag with regards to stats on Taxi numbers, but it is not even a contender when it comes to its public transit system (busses, trains etc).
- Traffic congestion means no matter how many taxis you have, none can reach congested spots! How about a congestion tax sometime in the near future.
- The City of Vancouver has a bylaw in place which restricts new licenses to a maximum of 10 per year. There is a good reason for this bylaw, it protects the intrests and livelyhood of those that have made a long term commitment to serving Vancouverite's transportation needs.
