TAXI BILL OF RIGHTS
Broadcast date 21-2-2008
In this video we can see that the propaganda war the CTV is waging has roots with Tourism Vancouver and Honorable Kevin Falcon BC's Transportation Minister.
- Hornby Street is one way northbound. The city has added parking on both sides of this street even during rush hour adding to the congestion.
- Burrard street is a parking lot.
- Howe Street is one way southbound with the right hand lane being a bus lane (no taxis allowed), and a restricted right turn onto Robson (westbound).
- Robson street has a turning restriction onto Hornby.
- Georgia St. has a turning restriction 3-6 pm onto Burrard St.
- The alley between Hornby St. and Burrard St. that leads to the Hotel Vancouver is a no entry.
- The Hotel Vancouver doormen are aware of all these problems. During rush hour, the only way to get to the hotel is via Hornby Street.
If these CTV reporters coordinated their efforts with the taxi industry (or just kept their eyes open, their office is in the same building) they would know that driving to the Hotel Vancouver is the biggest nightmare with regards to traffic congestion. Every taxi driver in this area knows this!
One would think a responsible reporter doing such a story would at least ask for exemptions for taxis on the turning restrictions, or bus lanes mentioned above. But that would help the taxis would it not. This is by malicious design and by no narrow margin at that my friends.
- We don't really need to expand our Taxi Fleet for the olympics, just add temporary taxi licenses for that period of time.
- Allow other cities to pickup in Vancouver and also add temporary taxi licenses.
Expo 86 was bigger and more demanding then 2010 will be, and the Vancouver Taxi Industry came through with flying colors.
