TAXI BILL OF RIGHTS

Message to the Minister

Dear Honorable Minister Falcon,

You have said in the media that you were Ejected from a Taxi Cab in downtown Vancouver, twice!
If this is true, we have a few questions for you.

  • Were you orderly?
  • Were you in a legal Taxi loading zone, waiting in line? or Were you trying to beat others that waited by running up the street, whistling waving or walking in front of Taxi Cabs etc.
  • What was the date and location of the said incidents?
  • What was the Taxi Company involved and the Cab number? What was the Taxi Driver's badge number?
  • Did you have a witnesses that can corroborate your claims?
  • Did you make a written complaint to the Taxi Company involved? What was the feedback you received for your complaint? Can you make these public?
We at TaxiRigts.Com are committed towards further improving an already excellent Taxi Service in Vancouver BC, and other Metro Vancouver areas.
We propose to do this by:-
  • Educating the Public and Taxi Drivers, on mutal issues.
  • Interacting with Organizations such as the Passenger Transportation Board, and Ministries like yours, City Halls. etc.
No oderly person willing to pay for the service should be refused Taxi Transportation.

This can be seen first Hand at the Vancouver International Airport:-

  • People arrive
  • Come outside
  • Line up
  • Get into Cabs and leave.

Taxi Cabs at the Vancouver International Airport:-

  • Arrive
  • Wait in line
  • Go up to the terminal
  • Load passengers
  • Leave

A Taxi Driver at the Airport cannot refuse to take a customer because of the destination or payment method. Offenders are punished by being refused service (possible passengers) or debarred for a period of time (Taxi Drivers). In most cases Taxi Drivers will monitor the activities of other drivers (as this affects them). This has been the case for years! Without any Taxi Bill or Rights.

In our opinion it would have been a better idea (never too late) for you to start a similar system for customers and Taxis in the Downtown core (where you were refused service).

  • There are designated Taxi Pickup Zones, nobody adheres to them. Police Cars and Limosines park here. (Has your Ministry made any efforts towards making these Taxi Zones a workable reality?).
  • When Taxi Drivers are fined for picking up in non Taxi Pickup points, they will only pick up in Taxi Zones
  • Once Taxis pickup in designated zones, people will have to line up here. In a lineup it is easy to see who is orderly and who is not. The line will monitor itself.
Our question is:-

Are you trying to create a system, that is fair to all? Or just passing on the buck of lawlessness in the Granville Mall onto the Taxi Industry.

There are rumors that this whole Taxi Bill or Rights was started by you as a personal vendetta after you were refused service Downtown Vancouver, and that in legion with CTV News you have started a relentless Propoganda Campaign against the Vancouver Taxi Industry.

Please send us a response by writing to info@taxirights.com. We would like to hear you dispel these rumors and set the record straight

The world is coming to British Columbia in 2010 for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and the Metro Vancouver taxi industry will be ready with world-class service. We at Taxi Rights .Com will always work towards Making this a reality.
